Laminated glass is made by using two panes of 3mm thick regular glass which ensconce a plastic interlayer that holds them together. The resin used in between is PVB, EVA or SGP which holds the glass planes firmly in place. Should the glass shatter, the splinters hold on to the plastic layer and do not scatter like it happens in the case of regular glass. Of these types, SGP glass is the most recent and preferred option as it displays a set of very desirable characteristics that make it suitable for a wide range of applications.

SGP (SentryGlas Plus) is a kind of tonoplast polymer offering enhanced strength and durability when compared with the traditionally used laminating resins like PVB. SGP laminated glass is tough to break and is five times stronger than PVB laminated glass. So, at the same thickness, SGP laminated glass offers five times the tear strength while displaying one-fourth the bending deflection. Also, the SGP layer is transparent and has no tint. It displays commendable UV resistance and retains its tone even after extended exposure to sunlight.

With an increasing focus on harnessing natural light in buildings, laminated glass is what architects love as it can absorb up to 99% of the damaging UV rays which means excellent protection for interior surfaces and furniture.
